A coral island (over 100 miles circumference) discovered by Lt. J. Cook (Third Voyage) on Christmas Eve 1777 : - Christmas Island, lat. 1 degree 55 minutes N., long. 202 degrees 40 minutes E, a low, barren, uninhabited island, with anchorage on the west side.
